A significant proportion of our community is affected by immigration justice issues.

According to Census survey data, Southeastern Minnesota is home to 34,200 foreign born residents. Of these, 14,400 have become naturalized citizens and 12,000 are here as permanent legal residents, on work visas, and so on. Of the remainder, as many as 7,800 (based on national data and local data on regions of origin) may be undocumented. We estimate that there are 4,400 children who are citizens and who have at least one parent who is undocumented.
